Eagan Foundation Spring News!

2-millionth Dollar Awarded!

The Eagan Foundation awarded its two millionth dollar at its community grants awards breakfast on March 7, 2019.  The $1500 grant to The Link to help homeless young adults put the Foundation at $2,001,151 total given out since its 1991 inception, through college scholarships and community grants.

Supporting 19 Community Nonprofits

The grant was one of 19 community grants given by the Foundation to community nonprofits that make Eagan a better place to live, learn, work and play.  The recipients also included Treehouse (which supports at-risk teens), 360 Communities (which operates two shelters and family resource centers and supports at-risk students), Advent Cares (community service), The American Legion (teaching Americanism), Art Works Eagan (promoting the arts), Bowls for Brainpower (food for impoverished school students), Dakota Woodlands (shelter), DARTS Learning Buddies (mentoring youth), Eagan Art Festival, Eagan Parkrun (weekly running event), Eagan High School Advancement Via Individual Determination (college readiness program to close the achievement/opportunity gap), EHS Women in STEM, Living Well Disabilities (helping the disabled), Loaves and Fishes (free meal program), Meals on Wheels (meals delivered to homebound), Midwest Special Services (serving adults with disabilities), The Open Door (food pantry), Park Nicollet Growing Through Grief (grief support), Reaching Up (homework help) and Eagan Men’s Chorus. Learn more about these grants here.

New Youth Philanthropy Initiative

This year’s grants process featured a new youth initiative, in which a group of high school students decided how to allocate 20% of the grants proceeds to groups that help youth. Students learned about community issues in Eagan, the grant selection process, including creating and ranking criteria, and some group decision making tools.

Glass is 65% Empty

This year, the grant requests totaled $45,715, so our $16,000 in grants funded 35% of the need.  If one in ten Eagan residents donated $8, we could have funded the entire need.

We Need Your Help!

All Foundation scholarships and grants are funded through the generosity of philanthropic people, companies and organizations in the community.  We can only award what we receive through donations.  We live in a time of great prosperity for many, but the clients of many of these grant recipients have not shared in that prosperity.
